Arethusana arethusa (Dennis & Schiffermüller, 1775)

Type locality: Vienna, Austria.

Range: From Morocco and Spain across S., Middle and SE. Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor and the Middle East to the S. Altai, SW. Siberia and N. Tian-Shan.

Habitat: Mountain and foothill steppes and arid sparse woodlands up to 2,500 mtrs.

Flight Period: late July to mid-September in Europe.

ssp. aksouali (Wyatt, 1952) – Morocco

ssp. boabdil (Rambur, 1895) – Granda, Andalusia – Spain

ssp. dentata (Staudinger, 1871) – Catalunia – Spain

ssp. heptapotamica (Stauder, 1924) - Tian-Shan, Dzhungarsky Alatau, Saur, Tarbagatai

ssp. pontica (Heyne, [1895]) – The Caucasus

Notes: The subspecies boabdil and dentata are considered as full species by some authors.
