Satyrinae of the Western Palearctic

Berberia abdelkader (Pierret, 1837)

Type locality: “Oran (Algeria)”.

Range: Morocco, Algeria & Tunisia.

Habitat: Stony slopes at 200 - 2,300 mtrs.

Flight Period: June to October

Subspecies:

ssp. abdelkader (Pierret, 1837) - E.Morocco (Col du Jerada, Oujda) - Algeria - W.Libya;

ssp. nelvai (Seitz, 1911) - E.Algeria (Aures Mts., El Kantara, Djebel Metlili, Batna etc.) - W.Tunisia (Dj. Selloum, Dj.Semmama, etc.);

ssp. taghzefti (Wyatt, 1952) – Morocco (Tizi-nTaghzeft), High Atlas (Tizi-n-Talremt, etc.).

Notes: The subspecies nelvai and taghzefti are considered as forms by some authors due to sympatry and to the fact that this species is highly variable.  However according to my research, the subspecies fly in different localities and so I will consider them as subspecies.
