Chazara prieuri (Pierret, 1837)
Type locality: Bougi [Bejaia], Algeria
Range: Morocco, Algeria, Spain
Habitat: Hot dry rocky gullies with scrub between 900 – 1,450mtrs
Flight Period: Spain – late July to mid-August; North Africa – June to July
Subspecies:
ssp. iberica (Oberthür, 1907) - Spain;
ssp. kebira (Wyatt, 1952) - Taghzeft Pass at 2,200 mtrs. Morocco;
ssp. prieuri (Wyatt, 1952) - Algeria.
Form: A colour form with ochreous-red bands is known under the name of uhagonis (Oberthür, 1875)
Note: Mallorca has been excluded from the distribution of C. prieuri on the basis of Pons, G., 2000. Les papallones diurnes de les balears., 87pp. Edicions Documenta Balear, Palma de Mallorca. This species was recorded from "Mal Pas de Formentor in the northern most part of the island" from a single specimen by Senor J. Fernandez.
