Hipparchia aristaeus (Bonelli, 1826)

Type locality: Corsica, Elba, Sardinia

Range: North Africa, South Europe and Asia Minor.

Habitat: Hillside and open scree or rocky outcrops and stony slopes between 500 and 1,800 mtrs

Flight Period: June to August

Subspecies:

ssp. algirica Oberthür, 1876 – Daya, Lambessa, Collo (Algeria), Morocco;

ssp. aristaeus (Bonelli, 1826) – Sardinia, Capraia, Elba, Giglio, Ponza;

ssp. blachieri Frühstorfer, 1908 – Sicily;

ssp. senthes Frühstorfer, 1908 – Albania, Macedonia, S. Bulgaria, Greece including Levkas, Thassos and several islands of the Cycladian Archipeligo, Turkey.
