Lasiommata megera (Linnaeus, 1767)

Type locality: Austria & Denmark

Range: Widespread and common throughout all Europe and North Africa. Absent only from N Denmark, Estonia & Finland

Habitat: Diverse. Grassy, rocky slopes/gullies, flowery meadows, woodland clearings associated with open stony ground & paths form sea level up to 2,300mtrs.

Flight Period: Early April to October

Subspecies:

ssp. paramegaera (Hübner, 1824) – Corsica, Sardinia, Capraia, Montecristo & Balearic Islands.

ssp. megera (Linnaeus, 1767) – Entire Europe to Turkey & Armenia and North Africa.

Notes: Lasiommata megera paramegaera is considered to be a full species by some authors.
