Melanargia russsiae (Esper, 1783)

Type locality: S. Russia

Range: SW and SE Europe, Italy, E. Turkey, Transcaucasus, S. Russia to W. Siberia & E. Kazakhstan.

Subspecies:

ssp. cleanthe (Boisduval, 1833) – Basses Alpes.

·       Flight period – Late June to mid-August

·       Habitat: Dry, grassy, places in bushy clearings between 600 - 1,650mtrs.

ssp. japygia (Cyrillo,1787) – S. Italy

·       Flight period – Late June to mid-August

·       Habitat: Dry, rocky, limestone slopes and open gullies between 1,000 - 2,100mtrs.
