Pararge aegeria (Linnaeus, 1758)

Type locality: South Europe & Algeria

Range: N. Africa, entire Europe, Turkey, Israel, Syria, Transcaucasus, S. & C. Urals. Not reported from Rhodes.

Habitat: Deciduous, coniferous and mixed woodland.  In hot localities in South Europe it is often associated with tree lined rivers or small streams.

Flight Period: Late February to early October.

Subspecies:

ssp. aegeria (Linnaeus, 1758) – North Africa, Spain, Portugal, Balearic Islands, SW & S France, S Switzerland, Italy, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Crete, Lesbos, Samos, Kos & Karpathos;

ssp. tircis (Weiss, 1980) – British Isles, C & E France, N & C Switzerland, Greece, Corfu  European Turkey.
